I have been paying for a while now, used to be able to see my payoff on their website, now I can't find a payoff link. My complaint is only the website, not the people or the company.

Back in 2021 I used One Main to consolidate some debt as I was wanting to get engaged to my now wife. I paid over $4,000 in lump sum to close this account. Fast forward to May 2023, and I see on my credit report there is a balance of $178 still remaining. “How could this happen?” I thought. I had consolidated that debt with another company and the pay off was arranged without my involvement, why would this account still be open?
I spoke to 4 people at One Main, two consultants, Erika and Quinton, who asked me to reach out to the main 1-800 number. After doing so I was transferred back to the branch and spoke to the manager, I believe her name was Elizabeth.
After all employees confirmed that would indeed be “strange” that the payoff amount given wasn’t equal to the large lump sum deposit, and that they understood my frustration. They took no responsibility for what was an obvious clerical error on their part. I was now responsible for $178 on an account I assumed closed nearly 2 years ago.
Turns out, even doing the right thing, and getting your payments made (by whatever means) is not enough, I was even told that getting closing documents was “hit or miss” after I finally accepted defeat and paid the balance that was “remaining” aka manifested.
Bottom line: don’t be me from 2 years ago. Save your money, make smarter decisions, these people do not care about your situation and will deflect any responsibility back on you.
