NBT =“never banking there” I had a bad situation of someone getting authorized for a charges due to a glitch and NBT kept the authorization for 8 days. I loaned this person the money because the bank would not reverse the authorizations. I was repaid by this person via a official bank check (which cost $5 to be issued) and brought the official bank check to be cashed and they wanted to charge me $5 because I was not a customer. WELL GUESS WHAT!? I won’t be a customer anytime soon either!! It’s apparently more important to make money to them then it is to help out on a bad situation. Most other banks do not charge to cash checks and upon telling my situation to my bank they said the longest they may hold an authorization is 3 business days on average. This is not an isolated situation as this financial institution is known to hold money in authorization for longer than normal. In some cases what can occur is it can cause your account to go into overdraft and the FEES will pile up. So if you like to potentially pay FEES and have your money held for longer than normal this bank is for you. If not I highly suggest you take your business elsewhere.

After being a customer with this bank for a few years, the last situation has made me feel like changing banks. Very rude over confusion. My account was locked where I couldn't access my money to pay for my bills, groceries, and important urgent things over being on a forgotten joint account. I haven't deposited, taken out, or messed with because that account wasn't mine and it was forgot about. I nor the other person was notified about an overdraft. So I can't access my hard earned worked cash and pay for things that need to be taken care of over an overdraft that wasn't caused by myself but the owner of that account. Plus they want it paid or they're threatening me to basicly steal my money for that person's mistake over whatever happened from their behalf to overdraft with out notifying neither that a negative balance occurred. They were very rude over my confusion. My personal account that nobody is on shouldn't be locked over somebody else's problem and then I'm threatened for them to steal my money for that person's problem all because I'm on the account. They could have investigated and saw it had nothing to do with me so making somebody be punished for an exes fault is wrong. After this is resolved I'm changing banks. I make just enough to live then to be hounded by a bank over somebody else's mistake!

I love NBT Bank! I’ve never had any issues. I’ve overdrafted by mistake before, and it was a full 5 days before I was able to correct the error, and while they told me to do so promptly or be charged an overdraft fee, I never was. Staff has always been courteous and polite. Highly recommend!!

I opened my first US bank account as a Canadian with no ties to the US, and the personnel at the branch seemed quite apt at handling this.
This branch: good opening hours, drive-thru, counter service is fast and friendly.
NBT in general: good number of ATMs in upstate NY and VT, the free banking plan comes with everything I need. Good website and mobile banking app, so is the 1-800 phone support. The value proposition is great!

I was told by the teller that she was unable to find my account, however, her intentions were to have me to verify my information even after I had given her my license and check. She then had the verify my check was on the payroll?
The other branches have been able to cash my checks weekly, using only my license and check; always a very smooth process. So after opening an account, I am disappointed with how the encounter left me with a very unwelcoming impression.
