Fast, friendly, and a nice place. Nice to go into a bank and talk in person. Was able to handle all my needs

Once Northern Tier has transitioned to North Star I tried closing my account with them because I had recently moved states. I called them about 15 times before anyone answered the phone. The woman I spoke to was very nice and I was told that closing my account would be no problem at all. I had about 1500$ total in my savings and checkings account and she had asked for my current address so she could send me my money. Well, two weeks passed and I hadn’t received my money. I decided to call them again today and ask when my check would be received and the woman told me that BOTH MY ACCOUNTS WERE STILL OPEN! The woman I had spoken to previously not only did not close my accounts, not update my address, but she also did not send me my money! I spent almost 30 minutes on the phone with her updating my address and confirming the closure of my accounts! The woman today said she would email me a form so I could update my address and then email her to close my account. I got off the phone with her and waited 30 minutes for her email and it hasn’t come! I tried calling them back and once again I am not getting through to anyone! So now I have to try all of this over again! I am beyond confused at this point and am extremely upset with the lack of professionalism here.

Worst financial institution I’ve ever encountered. I was in the USAF, but about to separate. Part of my out-processing paperwork required me (and all who separate) to get signatures from both financial institutions in base. Northern Tier would not sign my paperwork/checklist because I had taken a new auto loan out two months prior (after paying off my previous loan with them). They said that had they known I was getting out, they would not have authorized the loan. Keep in mind, I never missed a payment, and was never late, since all of my payments were automatically withdrawn on payday. I asked the manager if any other civilian were to switch jobs while having an auto loan, would that authorize NTFCU to repossess the vehicle? I said, “Basically, you’re telling me I can’t get out of the Air Force because I have a loan with you?” The manager actually said, “Yes”. Can you believe that? I then went straight to our base legal team, and an hour later I had my signature. The AF Captain that spoke with the NTFCU manager threatened to get them thrown off base if they continued this behavior. Shady, shady folks there.

Tiffany M. is very unprofessional and rude. I'm surprised she was able to get a job in customer service when she treats people terribly and accused them of fraud.

This bank will not let you exchange cash for a cashiers check unless you have an account with them. Not even for a fee.
