They definitely need to get more informed about how to deal with immigrants. I called them, and they didn't even know what a work permit was. When I got there, the person at their front desk asked me for a photo ID, and I gave her my passport, and she said she needed something with an address on it. My husband, who is a US citizen, btw, asked if a utility bill would work with it, and she said yes... then she said she needed a Photo ID still while my passport was at her table, and I said "my passport is right there" and then she asked if it had a photo there, she didn't even bother opening it. Also, it took forever for someone else to call me to open an account and when she did she kept insisting my SSN was an ITIN number and I have explained it to her many times it wasn't but she kept insisting it was and only stopped when I pulled up what an ITIN looked like on Google (which is very different from what I have). She even compared me to another client that supposedly been there before that saying "oh someone else came in earlier and had a greencard and was also married to a US citizen", little does she know how long immigration takes to process cases, I'm still waiting on my greencard and it's been a while. According to her, my SSN couldn't have a sentence saying I needed permission to work ... but if you dont have a greencard in hands yet, your SSN has this sentence, and they only remove this condition when you get your Greencard approved (that doesn't mean it's an ITIN though). Then she said the system locked when she entered my SSN and at first she said it was because my married name was different from my maiden name and then right after she changed the whole story claiming it was because I didn't get the SSN right when I was born. I get it was not necessarily anybody's fault that they are not prepared, but the employees need to be trained better about how to deal with immigrants' documentation and whatnot so they can make their experiences smoother. It's not fair for immigrants to go through all this hassle while trying to open an account! And definitely don't act like you know more about the immigration process and all the documents we have than we do because you definitely don't, especially considering how poorly trained you all were about immigrants.
