My partner and I have both called in the last week and not gotten callbacks. The online banking is unreliable, the lobby has been closed for way too long, and the only time I have tried to open a new account online I never heard a thing. They acted put out that I made an appointment at 4, because they close at 4:30, but I had to leave work early just to do that. I would have switched banks already, but it's such a pain in the butt to transfer money and go through the process. The only reason they get 2 stars is our account/loan person in Brunswick, Madison, has been great. Thomaston branch not so much. Now I have to go through the whole process of moving banks again, hoping to help someone else who is searching avoid that headache.

Terrible experience with Katie Ferland buying our home. We wanted to keep our money in Maine with a Credit Union and I can’t express enough how much we regret this decision.
I was consistently and deliberately left out of communications and only my spouse was on emails, we were constantly pressured with “urgent/emergent issues” that needed to be done last minute - including an insurance issue which she “called in a favor for” with another insurance company resulting us in paying over 4x what the prior homeowner was paying (so much that the title office commented on it!!).
In addition, the last time our closing was delayed my spouse received an email at 4:45 pm the day prior to closing (!), I was left off the communication and neither me or my spouse received the decency of a phone call.
When I called (the next morning) and discussed this with her, we were offered no apology until I expressed repeatedly how disappointed and frustrated we were with the whole process. (As contrast, the title office and our lawyers office both contacted us on their own volition expressing concern and making sure that everything was ok). It was very difficult to get specifics about the cause for delays, although interestingly it was always expressed it was never the banks (or Katie’s) fault - the buck always stopped somewhere else. We were even told it was “our fault” for delays for not going through a realtor when this was a private sale and there was no need for a realtor.
Update: Got a very sketchy fraud alert call today which my phone flagged as "Scam", which did not have a rep based in the US and did not feel comfortable providing my personal financial information.
Called Midcoast branch to confirm and was told by the rep that any/all overseas purchases MUST be called in and notified at the branch prior to making a purchase? The teller/rep said this had been emailed and was "all over social media" - however the rep confirmed that my HUSBANDS email address, not mine was listed on my account, despite the fact I set up my information with my own email address. As you can see, this is not the first time Midcoast has put the husbands/mans contact information over the other spouse. I also do not have social media and find it rather absurd my financial institution is telling me to check Facebook for updates and information.
Teller did not give any insight into how a member is supposed to know which transactions will require a call, and suggested I read the terms and conditions which she said clearly state this - the online T&C do not have any mention of needing to notify Midcoast for any/all online purchases.
In addition, when I asked the teller if she could simply approve the transaction, as it was made less than 5 min ago, she said no and I would have to wait "wait and see" if Visa determined its fraud (it is not) and then try to make my purchase again.

The lady who opened the account for us is very nice and helpful. She is personable and seems caring.

I would NEVER recommend anyone to this credit union, the absolute worst experience ever ive had with a credit union. Save your time and go to down east credit union. Midcoast has been nothing but trouble. Horrible loan officers, especially Marianne I believe her name is.

The worst experience I have had at a financial institution in 30 years. Very poor service. Had me complete my loan paperwork on my phone. I am all for electronic signature, but they should have the equipment for that. They did not subtract my down payment from the purchase price of my vehicle, instead wrote loan amount for full purchase price. Tried to sneak insurance onto the loan, I caught it and they had to redo the loan. When I went to make first installment payment, I mentioned that I never received anything in mail about my due date. They told me they don't send anything, I just should "know when it is due." Just really lazy service by people that don't really seem to care if they do business with you or not.

My husband and I recently started the process of buying our first home. The member service supervisor, Kate, and mortgage officer, Katie, were a tremendous help. They were both easy to communicate with and very informative. Katie was patient with all of our questions and explained answers clearly and helped calm a lot of nerves. Great service here! Definitely recommend them!

The folks here at Midcoast Federal Credit Union are some of the most knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and self aware people in banking I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! I’m So grateful to be cared for by such capable and people who value relationships and connection.
