We have been loyal 5th/3rd bank customers for 40 yrs. We have a considerable amount of money there, excellent credit, own our home, vehicles, have large pensions, 401ks, IRAs, have no debt. We are retired, in our 60's. We hadn't bought a home, for 30 yrs. On JUNE 25th, we went in to get a mortgage. We were approved on the spot. We NEVER heard from the loan officer again, until I CONTACTED HER!! Our daughter and family moved home,from CA, as my husband is very ill. We were going to let them live in our home and down size to a smaller home. We should have been given a list, of all documents we needed, from day one, we didn't get one. I had to contact her AGAIN, to ask what she needed next. Our loan officer was a nice woman, but so slow, ineffectionant, and blatantly lied to us. They had all the documents and paperwork, they needed, signed. We were putting $30,000 down, mortgage $82,000.
Per her email, title work was sent in July 11th. Two weeks pass, nothing was done. I finally got so angry, I said "forget it, we're paying cash, for the home"! We called the title company, the paperwork for the title search, was faxed to them on JULY 23RD, NOT JULY 11TH, as our mortgage officer had told us! She said it was her "teams" fault, bank manager said, she has nothing to do with mortgages and the loan officer DOESN'T have a team! Forget the complaints department, rude and DO NOT care! We spoke with BOSSE TITLE COMPANY on July 24th. Wonderful company..we are closing on the home, JULY 30th! 5th/3rd said it would be August 10th or later, because they can't or won't do their JOB! They never apologized, or said sorry they lost a good mortgage or customers! The tellers and customer service representative, are friendly and great! But 5th/3rd LIES! I would NEVER recommend their mortgage department to ANYONE! Dealing with their Mortgage department was a nightmare, so stressful and ridiculous! My husband was so angry, his Blood Pressure went to stroke levels, he went into AFIB, and almost ended up in the hospital again, he was hospitalized in ICU Cardiac Unit for 2 weeks in March. The 1 star, is for their tellers!!

Terrible customer service. Go to another bank in the area if you can. Fifth Third is a great bank overall However, Mt. Vernon, IN location is terrible.
